Day Program

The JESPY House Day Program was developed to address the needs of some of our clients who are more severely learning disabled. These individuals, either not ready for or unable to maintain full-time employment, are in need of transitional or long-term programming to reduce the risk of decompensation and promote maximum functioning. Our experience has demonstrated that these adults have previously "fallen between the cracks" of the behavioral health and vocational rehabilitation systems.

Hours of Operation and Daily Schedule

Hours of Operation: Tuesday - Friday: 9:00am to 3:00pm

Each day begins with a current events group and ends with a discussion of the day's events as well as a review of the next day's schedule. The core of the program is the Fitness and Exercise Group conducted by an instructor who is a certified personal trainer as well as a teacher of the handicapped.

A daily Nutrition Group complements the fitness group and provides an opportunity for clients to discuss various health-related topics and proper eating habits. The participants work together to prepare a healthy, nutritious meal for their lunch.

A twice-weekly Art Therapy Group is led by professional artists from Arts Unbound, a non-profit organization dedicated to the artistic development of adults with developmental, physical or emotional disabilities. Several participants have sold their work at art shows and galleries in New York City and New Jersey.

Other scheduled weekly groups include:
  • Building Self-Esteem
  • Social Skills
  • Health and Safety
  • Critical Thinking
  • Music Relaxation Therapy
  • Hygiene and Grooming
  • Dance and Aerobics
  • Job Skills
...and a variety of recreational activities.
